Alette Vonk
As a development sociologist, Alette initially learned about OD through IODA members from various countries. It was a major retraining program in Ghana, where she worked. It provided the opportunity to put the lessons into practice straight away with local NGOs and the government.
After spending 10 years in West Africa, she returned to the Netherlands. She specialized in improving intercultural cooperation within organizations and teams, with a particular focus on Europe and Africa. Through her company, De Vonk, she advises, trains, and coaches organizations and individuals in intercultural management and communication. Her clients include organizations in the development cooperation sector, international foundations and companies, and the healthcare sector.
Alette is the author of the article ‘OD approaches in other cultures’, which was first published in Dutch in M&O. Later, it appeared in English in the OD Practitioner. Recently, another writing of her hand was published in the book ‘Cultural Confluence in Organizational Change: a Portuguese venture in Angola’.
Her company is part of the Intercultural Insights cooperative and is one of the Friends of Hofstede. She also lectures at Leiden University one day a week on intercultural management.
Alette has been a member of IODA since 2006. She served on the board between 2008 and 2016. This time, she is the initiator and chair of the host committee for IODA 2027 NL.
